Master stroke ... thousands of youngsters aged from seven to 15 cycled, swam and ran yesterday morning at Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush Bay as part of a world record attempt to stage the largest under-16 triathlon event. About 2800 children took part in the event, which will move around Australia and New Zealand until April. They are challenging the record set by 11,831 Aussie and 17,129 Kiwi kids in 2008. Jack Thompson, 10, who participated for the second time, said the swim was a challenge but he was better at cycling. "It was very hard, but it was so fun," he said. The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is in its 12th year.
