THE Illawarra Triathlon Club will host a team triathlon event at Port Kembla on Sunday.

"This is the first teams event that has been held in the Illawarra for a number of years," club president Carolyn Dews said.

"We are encouraging anyone who can swim, cycle or run to join with friends, family or workmates to form a team for the event on Sunday."

The race starts at 8am and is based at the Illawarra Senior College.

The 400m swim will be at Fishermans Beach followed by a 15km bike ride and 3.6km run along Gloucester Boulevard.

"At this stage we have more than 40 teams entered for the event," Dews said.

The teams categories include male, female and mixed as well as corporate. Entries and registrations can be made online at www.itc.org.au and the cost is $15 per team.

After the event there will be a barbecue breakfast for participants.

The club conducts a summer triathlon series and runs weekly aquathon training sessions at Belmore Basin between October and April.
