THE Illawarra Triathlon Club starts its 2008-09 season at Port Kembla on Sunday.
The much-anticipated race begins with a swim in the pleasant surrounds of Fishermans Beach and a run back across to transition in the grounds of Illawarra Senior College. The bike and run legs both travel along Gloucester Boulevard with the finish in the college grounds. The club encourages athletes of all ages and abilities to participate in their triathlons, which are held monthly from October to April each year. This year the club will hold a team event on Sunday, December 21.The idea is for people to come along as part of a team and try a triathlon. The safety of all competitors is a high priority.Port Kembla SLSC will provide water safety and St John's first aid officers will attend.Roads are closed during the race, which makes an ideal course for all ages and abilities.Interested persons are encouraged to join the club and participate in a number of events over the course of this forthcoming season. As well as the triathlon series, the club also has a swim/run session every Wednesday afternoon starting at 6pm at Belmore Basin. For more information on the race dates, times and course, go to www.itc.org.au or call Carolyn Dews on 0409 603 974.
