AUSTRALIA'S best triathletes will converge on Nowra for the Scody Olympic Distance Triathlon tomorrow, with World Championship selection on the line.

It is the first race in the Australian National Series to select the team for the World Triathlon Championships in Canada next year.

The team will be selected on points from the series and it is crucial for many athletes to get a good start to the season in Nowra.

While the elite athletes will complete the 1500m swim in the Shoalhaven River, a 40km ride and 10km run in around two hours, there is a chance for everyone to get involved in a teams' event.

There is a special MiniMan Triathlon for juniors - a 300m swim, a 15km cycle and 3km run - to attract new competitors to the sport.

"Everyone who goes in it will be a winner," organiser Mark Emerton said.

The elite race is expected to finish around 10.30am outside Nowra's swimming pool on the banks of the Shoalhaven River.
